The argument from impermanence is based on that five skandhas are impermanent. Body, feeling, perception, volition and consciousness, which are the five skandhas, are impermanent. Impermanent would mean anything less than eternal. If someone believes that they can rebirth, so the liberation from rebirth is possible. If someone does not believe in rebirth, they may hold the opinion that a life will not exist after this life. So that will mean eternal. If there were a self, that would be permanent. If there were no self, that would last forever.
